Whew, here we are y’all, 2019 is upon us! As much of a shit show 2018 was, I am absolutely determined to make 2019 a productive and healing year for myself. If 2017 was a year of uncertainty and 2018 was a year of growing pains, then 2019 is the year I will take what I’ve learned and truly apply it to my life. I honestly felt like most of the time, I just did what I could do to survive the day to day. A lot of my actions and decisions were motivated by the immediate rather than the long term.
I’m going to be real with you guys, I am not in a good financial situation. I’ve been reckless with my spending these past few years and It’s caught up to me. Granted, the spending isn’t as “crazy” as other people’s but its time I stopped comparing myself to other people and stop using this horrid excuse. 2019 is the year I’m going to unfuck myself financially lol.
If you don’t know who Aja Dang is, you really should. She’s a model and Youtuber who, in the past year has taken on a monumental journey to pay off over 200K in debt. Like me, a bulk of her debt is student loans. Watching a recap of her 2018 progress really inspired me to tackle on my own debt and take ownership of my financial life. The plans I have for this task is a little long so I’ll be doing a separate post about it in a few days!
2019 is also going to be a year where I’m really going to dig in and invest in myself career wise. From watching more photography tutorials, spending more time searching for inspiration, to upgrading equipment, I really want to be able to do everything I can to improve my craft and take even better photos in the new year. I have my eyes set on a Canon 6D and maybe the 17-105mm lens.
I feel like I’ve hit a wall with the current kit I’m using (Nikon d3200 35mm 1.8) and as much as I love this kit, I really want to be able to shoot with a full frame camera and have a wider range of focal lengths to work with. This is gonna be one of my biggest investments to date because a refurbished kit is going to run me $1K. The amount seems so daunting but with the budget I created for myself, its looking a lot more manageable than I had previously thought!
This year, I also want to start learning how to shoot in a studio and exploring studio work. Renting space can get expensive but again, I need to start investing in myself. I have a few photographer and model friends I plan to split studio session times so it wont hurt my wallet too much!
I love learning and one of my favorite things about photography is how its a constant journey of learning and self discovery. No one truly hits a peak with their work unless they allow themselves to. There’s always something new to learn and master! I really hope I can pick up my camera as often as possible this year and shoot a wide variety of subject matter.
There’s also a lot I plan to do with this blog as well! I might have gone full time as a photographer, but Cytherial originally started as a fashion blog and I really want to go back to my roots for a few of my posts this year. I’ll also be doing some financial life tracking posts to document my progress going debt free.
I know New Year posts tend to get really cliche and a lot of people fall off during the year but for my own sake, I need to follow through. They say that a year of hard work and focus pulls you ahead 5 years in life. I have a lot to catch up on and fix but I’m hopeful.
Y’all should see all of the plans I have written down in my bullet journal haha I’m manifesting everything I want in 2019
LETS DO THIS.
What plans do you have for 2019? Let me know in the comments! <3
