The other weekend, I had the incredible opportunity through the Asian Creative Network to attend Kollaboration’s Empower Conference as one of the photographers! I’ve been a fan of Kollaboration’s showcases ever since I watched PK’s standup comedy in high school (so its been quite a few years lol) the've launched the careers of some of my favorite asian Youtube singers when I was younger and to be a small part of their history was such an experience.
Empower is a conference for Asian creatives to get together, learn from each other, and uplift each other in an otherwise very white industry. I learned so much from attending panels in between my shooting schedules and I felt SO inspired to create and jumpstart my career. Not to mention I got to meet a ton of other creatives and even some people I look up to (cough cough the Sudarso brothers and Chris Pang from Crazy Rich Asians).
Although it was rough for me to take time away from my delivery job, I felt that the connections I made and the knowledge I gained from the conference was worth more than I lost out on monetarily that weekend. I really had to take a hard look at myself and learn when its a good idea to make decisions for my short term and long term goals and to be honest, it paid off~
